PHAENARETE
Socratis mater, obstetricis munere apud Athenienses functa. Eius meminit filius apud Platonem in Theaeteto p. 149. tom. I. edit. H. Stephani, Ω῾ς ἐγώ ἐιμι ὑιὸς μάλα γενναίας τε καὶ βλοσυρᾶς Φαιναρίτης, Sum filius obstetricis valde generosae, ferocique praeditae animô, Phaenaretes. Quo de loco perperam reprehenso ab Athenaeo, dixit Voss. in Institut. Oratoriis l. 2. c. 14. sect. 18. Est autem Βλοσυρὸς epitheton leonis, apdu Hesiodum in Scuto Herculis v. 175. et Pollucem l. 5. c. 2. et Βλοσυρότης proprie torvitas est: sed cum sic vocari videmus, capiendum de illa oculorum ferocia, quae in bene natis et idcirco alios prae se contemnentibus, relucet.
